This kitchen started as your typical 90’s honey maple brown. It featured 45 degrees angles and a raised counter. Staples of the era. Before, it was’t possible to sit at the island without blocking a main pathway through the house. Now, it is bright, spacious, and a place for conversation. Three things to note in this kitchen are 1) how we acknowledged the need for support where there was once a partial wall, thus the large wooden pillar. This pillar is also supplying the island with it’s electrical needs. 2) There is a gap between the two rows of island cabinetry which allowed the sink to turn and move slightly from it’s original home. 3) The cleaning pantry beside the fridge opens to the side which in this case is easier to access than a pull out (pull outs are also difficult to find in many sizes).
